THE TOM'S 28 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTORS: WILL & MILLIE TOMS

AN UPDATE FROM MILLIE AND WILL
So much has happened since February. YWAM Tribalwinds is growing! (please look at our staff group photo below) It seems that even without doing a DTS, we are constantly busy! Frankly, I don't know how we would have been able to accomplish all that we needed to do if we had a DTS at this time. It is apparent that we needed this time to catch up on all neglected matters as well as come together as staff and lay a firm foundation as to what it is that the Lord has going as YWAM Tribalwinds.

EVENTS, GUESTS AND PROJECTS
3/7-3/9- YWAM Tribal Winds Staff Retreat- We prayed and discussed matters together and sat by Oak Creek in Sedona as families
3/27-3/29- Re-roof the Conference Center with Mike Leatherby (the father of Tamara; she graduated from our DTS in 2006) and the roofers from Colorado
4/25-4/16- YWAM Tribalwinds hosted Terry & Darlene Wildman with "Rain Song" in Hopiland- Concerts and talking circle
4/18- 4/20- Corb & Jan Morgan with "Many Tribes" (from Washington) in Hopiland to minister to the children and to the community
4/18- Re-roof staff mobile Home in Flagstaff- Thank you Mike Leatherby for coming with your company once again!

BASE COUNCIL FORMED
We have formed a "base operations council" as this would help us make more concise decisions on many matters which not all staff would need to be involved. We are taking some time to re-evaluate our Tribalwinds Staff Policy Manual and other Tribalwinds financial matters. As we look at our books, it seems that we should not have been able to pay all the bills in recent years and yet the Lord has been so very faithful to us and we are so grateful for those who gave to Tribalwinds.

RESERVATION NEWS: THE PETTENGILL'S
The Pettengills' home has been completed: Our home in Kykotsmovi Village has been transformed by Stan & Beth Pattengill. Their 3 children are so happy to be able to play outside in the biggest sand box after having been inside most of their lives in Amsterdam, Holland where they could not play outside much because of the neighborhood and all the rain there. They were doing ministries with Addictive Behavior Counseling, leading YWAM's Cleft ministry team there of 19 staff in the red light district, before that base pastors of YWAM Amsterdam for three years (80-100 staff). Beth says that she doesn't know when she has been so happy as she is now in Hopiland.

RESERVATION NEWS: THE REAGEY'S HOME
The Reageys' home completed: The apartment for Kevin and Anjali's family is done in our old garage in Kykotsmovi Village - the carpet has been installed, a front door has been put in where the garage door used to be, the sink and the plumbing in the kitchen, tiles on the floor, closet built in the master bedroom, etc. I thank Will who had the skills to do all these things with Kevin. And thank you John Mills (friend of the Pettengill's for coming and helping out!

RESERVATION NEWS: Charity, Danielle and Sheila continue to keep the Tribal Winds YWAM House busy, working with friends, emergency foster care and guests coming through.

RESERVATION NEWS: Nita continues to make baskets, raise two children, encourage and communicate to her people and lately has taken on the promoter and planner hat for the RAINSONG visit and concert schedule.

GOATS AND CHICKENS
We purchased 1 nanny goat with 2 baby goats, and 25 chicks, for goat milk and eggs for our base and Hopi friends. The goats are being raised by the Pettnegills in Hopiland and the chicks will be raised by Doris, our ranch staff lady, in Flagstaff.

CALLED TO A SEASON AND LIFESTYLE OF PRAYER
Often, I cannot sleep because I (Millie) cannot wait to wake up to walk over to the Conference Center to meet with my Saviour and my friend. Sometimes, He and I sit and simply smile together and other times, we weep and travail together. He said that His sheep will hear His voice. Sometimes, He asks me to fast coffee, meat, dessert or watching a video etc. One morning, it was okay to have my first black cup of tea with milk and sugar, but when I was ready to make my second cup of tea later in the day, I sensed in my spirit that He was asking me to forego my "splenda" (imitation sugar). It is different day by day, week to week, but all I want to do is to please Him. All I know is that I was made to love Him and to be loved by Him. All I want to do is to hear His voice and obey His every whisper as I know this makes a difference somehow in eternity with Him.

It seemed at times that I felt worse and more desperate and wretched the deeper I went with the Lord during these prayer times. I was so painfully aware of even the smallest of all my selfishness and greed or double-mindedness that I felt more miserable than ever. These prayer times, I had realized, done in pride or self effort, are also "all vanity and chasing and striving after the wind." So, I must look to the cross! We will continue with these prayer times for I know this is what He said for us to do at this season. I thank David Mendez, who was one of our first disciples 28 years ago at "Winter House" in Santa Barbara, who came to fast and pray for 5 days, Aaron Tharp who graduated from our DTS 2007, who came for 10 days to pray and the others who have committed and coming to pray weekly and Kristal, who prays in Sweden our time 11:00 PM- Midnight daily, as well as our staff in Hopiland who gathers to pray five mornings a week along with Hopi friends in the Pettengill;s home. We sense that this is a very special time!

BELOW YWAM TRIBAL WINDS STAFF IS GROWING
YWAM Tribalwinds staff: Stan & Beth and kids, Millie & Will (mid-rear) Doris (kneeling) Kayla & Nita (middle) Sheila, Yuki (middle rear, right) Anjali & Kevin (with son, Shiloh) Danielle & Charity (rear, right) and Franklin (Nita's son being hugged by Anjali). We're missing Andy & Sunhee Yoo, a Korean couple in their 60's whom we just accepted on staff. As I have spent more concentrated time in prayers, I am so aware of those who are praying for us and with us! Blessings to you!

In His amazing grace, Millie & Will

Through the Years

28th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

I cannot understand how God has loved us from endless ages! But He did and He still loves us deeper and more beautifully than we can even began to fathom. During this time of prayer, I often see my self walking with Him in a garden. I can see that we are not in a hurry; we're tarrying together as we talk and listen to one another. He is indeed so beautiful! It is our one hope to see Him and to honor Him- all else is blowing in the wind! As we desire to please Him on this planet earth, He will guide and lead us- that is our comfort. May the Lord's touch and His whispers of kindness bless you this very day!

For Life Above All

[Ed. note: The following letter is in a report on a public hearing in Brazil regarding the rights of indigenous children. Innocent children are dying in the tribes when they could have been helped (and the have the legal right to receive help), all in the name of "preserving culture," even if the cultural practice is to kill children born with deformities. For the benefit of the indigenous tribes of Brazil, especially the children, please join us in praying for justice and righteousness to prevail.]

"For Life Above All" and "No to sacrificing inigenous children." These were the sayings stamped on the t-shirts in the public hearing on the 14th of December, in the House of Representatives in Brazil. They [those who wore the t-shirts] were indians of different tribes, missionaries of various missions and people from the most diverse backgrounds--people who love, understand and embrace the cause of the indigenous. The sayings on the shirts, though simple, are explosive. They declare the society's awakening to a secular problem of our nation. A shocking, shameful truth has been locked under seven keys, hidden in the deepest conscience of each of us. This nation assassinates children for cultural reasons. And not just a few children, but dozens, hundreds of defenseless children. Infanticide is qualified homicide, it doesn't matter if the reasons are cultural.

"My eyes are spent with weeping; my stomach churns; my bile is poured out to the ground because of the destruction of the daughter of my people, because infants and babies faint in the streets of the city." Lamentations 2.11

We believe that the public hearing played a prophetic role, breaking taboos and bringing this open wound for the first time to the House of Representatives. Representatives, aids, the heads of FUNAI and FUNASA, and representatives of the Ministry of the Public could view reports and photos of children who had been sacrificed, of fathers and mothers who suffered the pain of having to kill their babies, of indians relating the procedure of sacrificing children in detail. The hearing positioned itself clearly in favor of life, and this is a great victory. Articles on the subject raised in the hearing can be found on the site www.camara.gov.br.

The right to life of indigenous children destined for infanticide is guaranteed by law, according to the decree of 19 April 2004 (Day of the Indian), which became effective with number 5.051 and promotes Convention number 169 of the OIT on Indigenous and Tribal Peoples. Article 8, number 2 says the following:

"These people should have the right to conserve their customs and their own institutions, as long as they are not incompatible with the fundamental human rights defined by the national judicial system, nor with internationally recognized human rights. Whenever necessary, procedures should be established to solve conflicts which may arise in the application of this principle."

The focus of this battle is not us, missions, missionaries or Evangelicals--it is the right of indigenous children to life.

The price of a clean conscience

Leviticus 6:5

Mitch put down his pen and stared at the list. Did he forget anyone? What about the amounts? Were they accurate? “Please God, help me remember,” he prayed.

His struggle began as a young adult. Working in fast-food restaurants, Mitch despised his minimum-wage existence. Life was boring and stealing from his employers brought a sense of excitement and adventure. It was easy for him to rationalize his actions. He was underpaid. His bosses treated him unfairly. They “owed” him, or so he thought. Besides, he reasoned to himself, no one would miss the small things he hid in his jacket almost daily.

But to God these small thefts were serious. Several years later when Mitch became a Chris-tian, he realized that he needed to confess his thievery and pay back everything, with an apol-ogy to each person he had hurt. When the letters and checks were sent, he experienced the wonderful joy that comes from a clean conscience.

Ask God to bring to mind anything you’ve wrongfully taken. Then, in obedience to God, begin the process of confession and repayment.
