Subject: It makes the dreamer proud and pretentious; No Indians from the reservations wanted; DTS; Native Americans in Russia

Dietrich Bonhoeffer said in his book, Life together- The Classic Exploration of Faith in Community, "God hates visionary dreaming (carnal). It makes the dreamer proud and pretentious...It is true, in so far as these are devout people, that they do this with the intention of serving the highest and the best, but in actuality the result is to dethrone the Holy Spirit, to relegate Him to remote unreality." As we are entering into this New Year, we truly desire that we only do what is in the heart of the Father and not our human (carnal) dreams!

The meetings at the Flagstaff Country Planning and zoning Department and the County Board of Supervisors concerning our YWAM Conference Center Conditional Use Permit went well on the 19th. But, the battle is not won yet as we need prayers for the 30th. Although none of the neighbors showed up at the first meeting to oppose YWAM's presence here, it does not mean that no one will show for the next one which is open to the public. We know of another Native ministry in which forty people showed up at a meeting like this and told them that they had no problem with the family living at the ministry base there, however, they said they did not want any Indians showing up from the reservations. Our friends are relocating.

Jan.20th- YWAM New York (48 of them) here at our YWAM Flgstaff- they will be moving on to perform "No more victims" play at various high schools in Nevada and California. (www.allaccessny.org)
Jan. 11, 18 & 25th- Jail ministry with the men and women at Flagstaff Jail
Jan. 7, 21, 28th- "Native Mourning" with women at the Jail (3:00 PM) -led by Sheila Meadows on staff
Sunday Evening Worship service (6:30 PM)
Jan, 18th- Micah Collaborate (the meeting of the pastors and others coming together to better deal with Christian Social responsibility and ministries in the community.)
Jan. 23rd- New staff, Brian McClain arrives
Jan. 26th- 3 men from WYCLIFF coming to meet with us
Jan. 30th- City of Flagstaff Conditional Use permit meeting about YWAM Conference Center.
February 4th- "Micah Collaborate" Retreat at YWAM Conference center in the afternoon.
Feb. 18th- DTS students arrive
Feb. 19th- DTS starts

Baptisms and weddings: There was yet another Hopi lady who got baptized this past month. As we've mentioned, there were no baptisms for almost 30 years before 1980. And we have two couples in Hopiland who had been together for many years now wanting to marry. We believe these things are a significant blow to the enemy as these Native friends are desiring to do what the Lord is requiring. One of our Hopi friend gifted our daughter, Naphtali, with a set of silver Hopi bracelet and earrings saying that in Hopi way that she is like his niece. He used to be a Hopi Tribal councilman. And another Hopi friend stopped by at our Flagstaff base to drop off some Hopi bread which was baked in their outside oven. We were invited to a baby hair washing ceremony up at Mishongovi village. It was so wonderful to hold Trinette's baby boy, with his hair so black, in my arms for such a long time. Hopiland is our home

DTS - A Hopi family of three are coming. Our Hopi friend, Nita, who has been so courageous to be a Christian in Hopiland is coming to our DTS in February with her 13 year old daughter and 5 year old son. Also, we will have a young Navajo (Dine) man from Page, AZ. And, Nate from California is our first second generation student with our ministry; his mother was in high school when Will and I first started in Sea & Summit ministry in 1980 and she was later on staff with us and now her son will be coming to DTS. We have Yuki from Japan but Joao from Brazil is having a tough time with his visa to come from Brazil. We also have our two young men from the Otoko clan coming to represent the Polynesians/ Micronesian islanders. Yes, God hates visionary dreaming. If it was up to me, I would dream to have a big DTS. However, I sense that God wants us to be humble and teach the ones whom He is sending.

God still speaks; An avalanche - Will and I went to Colorado to spend several days with my family who flew out from California for New Year's Eve. When it was time for us to come home, Will told me that we should pack and get out early. God spoke in my heart to listen to my husband and not try to stay there as long as I could. When we had drove over Winter Park pass, we found out that there was an avalanche which had buried eight people literally moments after we left that area, closing that highway for hours until the next day. It is good to hear God's voice and obey and it is good to listen to one's husband (sometimes).

Native Americans in Russia- Please pray: Could you and your friends pray for our friend, Cheryl Bear Barnetson and their Drum and Dance Team from First Nations Church, Los Angeles, as they are now ministering this month in Russia? They are doing some large evangelism events as well as Pastors and Leaders Conferences. The Russian leaders want the First Nations leaders from North America to help them "contextualize" the Gospel for the Russian churches. A Western form of Christianity has taken root in Russia in the last 20 years that does not "look" or "feel" Russian. The Russian church leaders believe that because the First Nations churches of the USA and Canada have faced the same challenges- we have something to share with them about how to make the Russian church truly Russian in order to reach Russians, and not just be a caricature of the American style church. Principles of contextualization that have been learned by the First Nations believers are a gift to the Body of Christ, world-wide. (a note by Randy Barnetson - info@firstnationschurch.com)

Our son, John (21years old), is now serving in Hopiland for a semester with a youth ministry with "On Eagle's Wings" youth ministry with the Hutchcrafts. Naphtali, our daughter, after serving in Hopiland for months is back at NAU (Northern Arizona University) to finish her last semester in Teaching major. Reachele Butikofer, our staff gal is back in Switzerland after helping us in Hopiland, helping at Hopi Day Elementary school and at Hotevilla Gospel Church and with youth at YWAM in Kykotsmovi. Charity and Danielle and Sheila are ever faithful in Hopiland, and Eric and Laura also in Flagstaff with many duties. Eric has done more up-dates on our website- www.tribalwinds.org. Bryan is arriving today and we need to make a decision on another woman who applied.

We have been blessed to have some other ministries such as Campus Crusade for Christ, WYCLIFF Bible Translators and Inter Varsity writing or coming to visit us. If we can all be humble and know that we are each responsible for a small portion of what God is doing on this earth, we can work together with Christ as our Commander. There is a flurry of activities and people getting in touch with us from literally around the world. We are glad to be a part of this work which the Lord established here amongst so many Native American tribes in Arizona. Blessings to you!

In His arms, millie

Please put Hawaii dates. March 29th - April 9th also along with below. Thanks, Eric!

As far as the Conditional Use Permit, we're still in process with the P & Z (Planning and Zoning) department. Last week we were cited for running a school rather than the retreats and seminars that our permit allows. This is a new twist that seems to be splitting hairs. We have been advised by a couple of the County Supervisors and a land use attorney in Flagstaff who told us that a couple of people in P & Z cannot determine their own definition as to what the term, seminar is and that a mountain is being formed out of a mole hill. Please do not misunderstand us to think that we do not care about the county laws or about our neighbors. We are concerned and desire to please the Lord and bless and work with our neighbors. Please pray with us.

However, there is a time to stand firm in order to accomplish the Lord's work in this fallen world as we have an adversary who does not want us doing what we do in this town and sometimes "tough" love is necessary. Our own district County Supervisor, within 5 minutes of talking to us and reading the minutes of the last meeting, said to us, "Do you plan on getting an attorney? I think you should look into getting one." The supervisors are even trying to help us get our money back from the "Appeal" process from the County. Will has been communicating with the zoning officer, but thinks we may need to retain the land use attorney he met with a few weeks ago. Please pray with us regarding all this as the retainer fee of $5,000 is required up front.

Yes, twelve of us (including our Samoan speaker who will teach on "Evangelism") are booked to go to Hawaii in seven days! We had our Hawaii orientation with Paul Otoko the other morning. It was very good. God showed him a picture awhile ago in his mind, about a woman who was repeatedly violated and couldn't hardly stand on her balcony and she was trying to pull herself up. God showed Paul that it was his people, the Micronesians/& other Polynesians who had violated her repeatedly with their pride and arrogance as they grew in numbers in Hawaii, never honoring the original people there. We are honored to be a part of this reconciliation as Paul wants us to be there to intercede as they ask for forgiveness and honor those elders who need to be honored. He would like DTS students and staff to be in charge of some workshops, and Tua, our Samoan speaker will be speaking one evening. The theme for this trip is "Easter then, Easter now."

Correction from the last up-date: The bob-cat carcass which I had thought had disappeared inside of our 6 ft. chain-link fence was found after all by our two students who were loading all the trash.

Blessings to you, our dear one! We love and appreciate you from deep down in our hearts.

In His most loving arms, millie & Will
We seem to be entering into this next phase of seeing our bigger vision of reaching the Pacific Rim nations being accomplished right in our midst. (check out www.tribalwinds.org - vision page) You have already received our e-mail which Will wrote from Hawaii on April 3rd. We just cannot say enough about how we sensed this was a trip which the Lord ordained for our DTS to go and we had such fantastic times of worship, intercession, protocol (honoring), and MORE worship late into the evenings (do these Micronesians ever sleep?), bonding and playing together. We sensed deeply that this was not just "Our" outreach but that your prayer and intercession was right there amongst us. And for this, we're truly grateful!

DTS Hawaii outreach: What we're so thankful about:
** For the approximately twenty five Hawaiians in Hilo who so warmly welcomed us with their songs, gifts and godly traditional dances. We are thankful that they received our apologies and forgave us, and the people groups we represented.
** For Paul Otoko who gathered all the Micronesian churches:Kosraeans, Pohnpeians, Chuukese, Marshallese: More than 250 of them were there to honor the Hawaiians. There is a new move stirring!
** All the Micronesian students and families from the University of Hawaii who gave up their beds and hosted us with so many great meals - we are so thankful!
** Leon Siu who took the time to be with our DTS to share his stories of Hawaii and to teach us.
** Daniel Kikawa (the author of Perpetuated in Righteousness and the founder of "Aloha Ke Akua" who took us all out to lunch and invited us to his church to join in discussion regarding our mutual interests in seeing the indigenous Church form and thrive.
** Pastor Ilaisa (Fijian pastor) and his Micronesian wife, Jaquie, and their three beautiful boys who let our DTS women stay with them in their home and even lent us their mini-van for several days. And also for all the lobster and fried fish which Jackie cooked for us.
** Pastor Mallen and his family who also let our DTS men stay in their home for several days and gave such kind hospitality to us.
** Sully & Jenny Sullivan who welcomed our DTS to their home, a developing Christian camp near Hawi, for several days to have lectures from our Samoan speaker, Tua. Thanks for all the fresh coconuts, papayas!
**Tua Meafua for extending his time with us to both teach and minister.
** Our staff people who stayed back to hold down the fort both in Flagstaff and in Hopiland.
** Laura Sameuelson (staff) who wrote the play "Free to Worship" which we performed twice in Hawaii.

Happenings with us:
** Our staff ladies in YWAM Hopiland now have five new Hopi foster children coming in to stay at our YWAM base in Kykotsmovi.
** Living Faith Church of Santa Barbara came with their youth group and an electrician and a plumber and construction worker (we always need them) during their spring break in Hopiland
** Jail ministry in Flagstaff: Last night, our DTS students and staff went in together. It was truly a wonderful thing for the students to be able to see a female Hopi/Navajo gang member from Phoenix get saved, and the Hopi men who came in to the service who were soft in their hearts to receive the Word.
** April 22-27 YWAM North America Leadership Conference in New Mexico (Will & Millie)
** Another meeting with Flagstaff County zoning next Wednesday, April 18th at 4 PM - we sure need prayers that they will choose to help rather than hinder us!

Please come and hear our speaker next week 4/17-21. Ray Aldred is a Cree Indian from Canada and the topic is "Ministering to Indigenous people". Ray is the director of first nations ministries for Christian Missionary Alliance churches of Canada, and was one of the key-note speakers at the Urbana Mission's conference a couple years ago.. If you are interested in his biography. go to our website www.tribalwinds.org under speaker's bio page. We will be going into Hopiland Friday and Saturday as usual to have him speak there. The fee to attend is $20 a day which includes the speaker and all the meals. Please inquire if you need lodging. May the Lord bless you mightily!

ln His exceeding joy, Millie & Will

Spring '07 DTS is on outreach and will Graduate (on Hopi) July 6th
07/07/07 the following day there is to be a Major outreach to the Hopi People, bands, special speakers, controversy lots of prayer needed for that.
